

The Academy of Art in Szczecin, in cooperation with the vanB Korea Artistic Association and the Asante Foundation, invites everyone interested in spending fantastic days with music, and art in the beautiful city of Szczecin, to participate in the International Summer Music Workshops 2023, which will take place in its historical buildings. NO AGE LIMIT.
This year's workshops, organized for the third time in Szczecin, will be held in three specialties: violin, cello, and orchestral conducting. Educators are valued artists and lecturers with many years of academic and music performance experience.
The violin class will be led by Prof. Magdalena Rezler. Cello students will be taken care of by Prof. Tomasz Szczęsny. Classes with a group of conductors will be led by Dr. Monika Stefaniak and Prof. Piotr Borkowski.
The conducting course will have three stages. For the first two days, the participants will work with the accompaniment of two pianos, then for three days with a string quartet supported by a piano, and then for four days with the chamber orchestra - Oder Art Orchestra. The culmination of the workshop will be a concert of all participants with an orchestra, which will take place in the historic Minor Basilica of St. John the Baptist.

Magdalena Rezler
Internationally acclaimed concert soloist, chamber musician, and violin professor. Graduated with honors from the Fryderyk Chopin Academy of Music in Warsaw, class of Prof. Tadeusz Wroński. Prize winner of such reputable international violin competitions as Queen Elisabeth of Belgium in Brussels, Jacque Thibaud in Paris, and Karl Flesch in London.
Magdalena Rezler, following the steps of her professors, is an excellent educator – for many years she led a violin class at her home Warsaw Chopin Academy of Music, and since 1991 she has been a professor at the renowned Hochschule für Musik in Freiburg (Germany). Her graduates are members of symphony orchestras in Berlin, Frankfurt, Stuttgart, Bremen, Hamburg, Detmold, Freiburg, Warsaw, Budapest, Zurich, Istanbul, Seoul, Tokyo, and of the International Mahler Orchestra. She conducts master courses in Germany, Poland, South Korea, Japan, Austria, and the USA. She is a jury member of violin competitions in Poland and abroad.

Tomasz Szczęsny
Born to a musical family, he graduated with honors from Szczecin music schools and Music Academy in Wrocław in cello class under Prof. Stanisław Firlej. Doctorated in 2014, and habilitated in 2018 in Musical Arts – specializing in cello. Since 2010 he is a professor at the Academy of Art in Szczecin. Regularly performing as a soloist and chamber musician, he sits on the jury of cello competitions and leads master classes in Poland and abroad. As a soloist, chamber musician, and orchestra member, he played a number of concerts in the USA, South Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia, Philippines, Germany, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Hungary, Spain, Portugal, Greece, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, and the Netherlands. Since 2006 he has been a concertmaster - the principal of the cello section at the Szczecin Philharmonic Orchestra. As a chamber musician, he is a member of the ExQuartet, and cello leader of the Oder Art Orchestra.

Monika Stefaniak
Monika Stefaniak studied conducting at Paderewski Music Academy in Poznań and Theory of Music at Chopin Music Academy in Warsaw. She graduated with distinction in Conducting in 2004 (class of Prof. Jerzy Salwarowski) and continued education in the class of Leonid Korchmar in the St. Petersburg State Conservatory till June 2005. She received her Doctorate in conducting from The Academy of Music in Krakow in May 2008. Monika Stefaniak has been a lecturer with the Conducting Faculty at Paderewski's Music Academy in Poznań from 2008 to 2016. From 2005 to 2009 she was Artistic Director of the Gdynia Symphonic Orchestra and from 2005 to 2007 Assistant Conductor in the Opera Baltycka in Gdańsk. From 2007 to 2009 she was the Artistic Director of the Sinfonietta Gedanensis Youth Orchestra. In 2008 she created and organized The Gdynia Masterclass for Conductors with Maestro Jerzy Salwarowski and The Gdynia Symphony Orchestra. She has been performing with many Polish and foreign orchestras, including Savaria Symphony Orchestra, The Congress Orchestra in St. Petersburg, Kalisz Philharmonic Orchestra, Szczecin Philharmonic Orchestra, Poznan Music Academy Orchestra, and many others. Maestra Stefaniak has participated in many Masterclasses and workshops with famous teachers and conductors, such as Accademia Musicale Chigiana with Gianluigi Gelmetti (2001 and 2005) and in 2003 with Sir Colin Davis organized by Hochschule für Musik Dresden; International Bartók Seminar's Conducting Course with Prof. Peter Eötvös (2009); Internationale Bachakademie Krakau with H. Rilling and with G. Chmura in Katowice where she performed in the final concert with the prestigious National Symphony Orchestra of Polish Radio. In 2005 Monika Stefaniak received a scholarship from the Italian Government for summer courses in Siena and a scholarship from the Polish Minister of Culture “For distinctive Polish artists of the young generation”. Since 2016 Monika Stefaniak is cooperating with a period instruments ensemble Ars Nova, performing contemporary music written especially for them. In the same year, she began to work as a lecturer at Gdynia Film School.

Piotr Borkowski
Graduated from the conducting class of Prof. Bogusław Madey at the Chopin Music Academy in Warsaw (presently the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music) with distinction for conducting the Warsaw National Philharmonic Orchestra in diploma concert (1989), followed by assistantship in the Department of Conducting at his Alma Mater and doctorate (Ph.D. in Conducting, 1998). In 2015 he was granted the title of Doctor Hab. of Musical Arts (post-doctoral degree) by the National Committee for Grades and Titles of the Republic of Poland. Further, he studied conducting with Hans Graf in Vienna under a Meisterkurse für Musik scholarship. In 1995 his studies with Myung-Whun Chung and Ilija Musin at Accademia Musicale Chigiana in Siena fruited with a Diploma di Merito. He took part in the International Conducting Competition in Besançon (France 1992), and the Boston Symphony Orchestra competition for the assistant conductor post (1995) where he qualified for the finals and conducted the Boston Symphony Orchestra. In August 1995 he was awarded the Diploma di Merito at the International Conducting Competition Antonio Pedrotti in Trento (Italy). Regularly conducts many most recognized orchestras in his country, among others National Philharmonic Orchestra in Warsaw, Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra in Katowice, Polish Radio Symphony Orchestra in Warsaw. Abroad he appeared with the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Berliner Symphoniker, Kammersolisten der Deutschen Oper Berlin, Orchestra Sinfonica di Roma, Orchestra Sinfonica Siciliana, Košice Janacek Philharmonic, United Chamber Orchestra, Sofia Symphony Orchestra, Trento Sinfonietta, Dnepropetrovsk State Philharmonic, Krasnoyarsk Chamber Orchestra, Kazakh State Philharmonic of Almaty, Orquesta do Theatro São Pedro (São Paulo), and most of the South Korean orchestras such like KBS Symphony, Korean Symphony, Suwon Philharmonic, Bucheon Philharmonic to name a few. He performed in the USA, France, Italy, Sweden, Germany, Russia, Brazil, China, South Korea, Kazakhstan, Mexico, India, Ukraine, and Taiwan. Recorded for the Polish Radio, Polskie Nagrania, DUX, Polonia Records, Global Sound Media, Centaur Records, and NAXOS. Served as chief conductor and resident conductor in Poland, India, Korea, and Germany. As an educator with 34 years of experience, he was a lecturer at the Chopin Academy of Music in Warsaw, Keimyung University, Daegu Catholic University, and Suwon University (all three in South Korea). Presently, since 2018 he is a professor at the Academy of Art in Szczecin (Poland). Awarded the Silver Cross of Merit of the Republic of Poland he is a member of the International L. van Beethoven Association in Berlin and the vanB Korea Artistic Association in South Korea.
